The Services of SAIL
In keeping with it s mission to promote the sport of sailing and excellence in it, SAIL (the Sailing Association of Intermountain Lakes) provides services to
- Its organization (club & fleet) members
- Its individual & family members
- The sport of sailing
- All sailors in the Rocky Mountain Region
Many of our services involve racing, because racing requires more organization than other forms of sailing & a specialized expertise . But, we are not exclusively devoted to racing.
Often, SAIL works "behind the scenes". If it's a question of credit or achievement, we choose getting it done.
Services to organizations
A regional sailing association is, in one sense, a council of sailing & yacht clubs and fleets.
- Coordinate the annual open regatta schedule, to avoid date conflicts and help encourage participation. (This was SAIL's first function.)
- Publicize events
- Represent clubs & fleets to the Area F Council of Sailing Associations & to US SAILING.
- Coordinate and provide funding for booths & displays at the annual Denver Boat Show, a membership recruitment opportunity.
- Serve as a resource for judges and race officers to staff events.
- Conduct annual race management workshops.
- Provide safety training, free except for instructor's food & lodging
Services to individuals
SAIL has many members who have joined as individuals & families
- Coordinate racing schedule to permit maximum opportunity for participation in races
- Provide information and communication through this website, quarterly newsletter and e-mail bulletins
- Conduct monthly sailing seminars during winter months
- Administer regional PHRF program to assure fairness in handicap racing
- Administer regional championship tours for dinghies, keelboats & juniors
- Provide safety training through clubs & fleets
- Represent and advocates for sailors to Area F & US SAILING.
- Promote excellence in race management & judging to assure that racing is fair, fun and safe
- Hear appeals of protests.
Services to the sport
We are dedicated to the growth of the sport & recreation of sailing in the Rocky Mountain Region
- Promote public awareness & acceptance of the sport in the Rocky Mountains
- Promote excellence in the sport through sharing of information
- Promote safety in sailing
- Promote & assist junior sailing and learn-to-sail programs
- Provide free memberships to junior sailors
- Coordinate annual sailing instructor course to assure future availability of qualified instructors in the region
