Rocky Mountain Shootout 2005

16 hardy teams sailed the shootout. On Day 1 the beautiful Colorado morning gave way to cooler blustery conditions by race time. The 3 fleets, J24's Santana 20's and PHRF started together for each of the 4 races. The north breeze rolling over the dam made for some exciting times at the weather mark and a little carnage here and there.

Casualties included a J24 Kite, an S20 gooseneck, and aft lower car. There were a few wipeouts and some creative spinnaker work as teams tried to get the kinks out after the long winter break.

The racing on day 1 was pretty tight with Scott Snyder taking J24 honors, and Tim Dunton leading the Santanas with 4 bullets a piece  Dave Ciesla on the J22 showed his mastery in the PHRF Fleet. Our Illustrious RC got everyone off the lake by 1530 ..just before the snow blew in.

Day 2 saw the cool conditions continue but with lighter steadier air which again made for some great racing.

Too close for some as a couple of mark rounding resulted in collisions. Scott Snyder continued to dominate the J24 class with 3 more bullets but was pressed hard by Tom Bremmer on Catapult in a couple of races. Team Chubasco continued their winning ways to also end up with 7 bullets. The 2nd spot in the S20 fleet ended up in a tie breaker with Lisa Wildeman prevailing over Geoff Zaun. The PHRF fleet tightened up with Dave Ciesla in the J22 eventually prevailing over Paul Kresge in the Star.

The Overall Trophy ended up as a tie with Team Xylem and Team Chubasco with exactly the same number of points. So both names will go on the trophy.
